Senior Citizen Center

Lawrence Township (Cedarville) in Cumberland County, NJ, is a rural community with an abundance of farmland and wooded areas. The Township had few recreational and social outlets for its residents, especially the senior citizen population. Triad Associates prepared a grant application to the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs on behalf of the Township for the construction of a Senior Citizen Center. As a result, the Township received $400,000 towards the $418,000 construction. The Senior Citizen Center consists of 3,100 square feet, with a 1,534 sq. ft. community room, two restrooms, a kitchen, two offices, a central lobby, and storage and mechanical rooms. The building, completed in April 2000, complies with all ADA requirements.

It provides:
• a convenient social meeting place for seniors;
• aerobics and other recreational activities for elderly residents;
• a number of public service health programs, including flu shots, blood and cholesterol screenings, and hot meals programs.
