Borough of Wrightstown
Fort Dix Street/Multi-Use Redevelopment Project

The Borough of Wrightstown is a small town located adjacent to the Fort Dix Military Base and the McGuire Air Force Base in Burlington County, New Jersey. The central business district, a designated Redevelopment Area is in disrepair and in dire need of upgrade. Fort Dix Street, the Borough’s main street houses several buildings constructed as temporary structures to serve the Military Base during World War I. While some are still in use, others have been demolished or are just barely operational.

Historically, Wrightstown’s activities have paralleled military conflicts: flurry of activities at wartime followed by a return to normalcy. The drastic downsizing of Fort Dix, which included the demolition of military housing for 3,000 people and privatization of on-base services, has diminished Wrightstown’s ability to compete for the military personnel’s dollars. While McGuire Air Force Base remains active, due to current conflicts, the Borough only peripherally serves the base. This is due to the location of McGuire’s entrance, not facilitating traffic through the Borough.

Triad Associates is a member of the team of consultants currently working on the implementation of Wrightstown’s Redevelopment Plan. To ensure transition to a self-sufficient community, the Borough intends to redevelop its downtown and the land annexed from Fort Dix, creating a mixed-use central business district, including commercial establishments, offices, hotel, senior and market housing. The consultant team is currently undertaking planning, preliminary engineering/design, and marketing for the 42-acre site acquired from Fort Dix. Triad Associates is also assisting the Borough with obtaining grant funding for acquisition and demolition of structures on Fort Dix Avenue. This will serve as an initial stimulus for attracting private development to the downtown.
