Purchase of Equipment, Bethlehem Fire Department
Pennsylvania

The Bethlehem Fire Department, which is located in eastern Pennsylvania, has a primary response area of approximately 19 square miles and is home to a population of around 75,000 residents. The line firefighters of 113-fire career suppression personnel operate out of five fire stations handling approximately 12,000 calls a year. Much of the current equipment and gear was no longer in compliance with standards, and could negatively impact firefighter safety. With current deficit projections, it was impossible for Bethlehem City to fund the critical purchases on its own.
Triad was asked to prepare the documentation and find the sources to upgrade specific equipment including bunker boots, helmets, gloves and hydraulic rescue tools.
The Fire Department received an Assistance to Fire Fighters Grant from FEMA in the amount of $129,076 for a CORE rescue system and personal protection equipment for its fire fighters, including sixty sets (coat and pants) of OSHA and NFPA compliant structure, thirty three   pairs of OSHA and NFPA compliant 14” leather bunker boots, sixty OSHA and NFPA compliant helmets and one hundred and ten pairs of Protech combination rescue/firefighting gloves.  With the purchase of the personal protection equipment, the Department is now in compliance with new NFPA #1971 Standards.
