The Hoboken-North Hudson YMCA provides a recreational outlet for approximately 3,000 people annually and operates an affordable housing option for 96 single occupancy rooms (SRO) for those at-risk of becoming homeless and/or having special needs. The "Y" needed to upgrade its infrastructure and rehabilitate its units, as well as add an expansion of services such as community meals, recreational facilities, and medical services.
The YMCA’s program included a Special Needs component designed to allow discharged patients to receive ongoing case management including mental health and substance abuse support and psychiatric treatment.

| Triad brought together key community partners including the Mental Health Association in Hudson County, St. Mary’s Community Mental Health Center, Hudson County Office of Aging and the North Hudson Community Action Corporation to develop a Special Needs service plan. |
 |
| YMCA was approved for a $12 million project through the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, Low Income Housing Tax Credit program, NJ Department of Community Affairs, Balanced Housing Program and County HOME funding. The newfound partnership between the YMCA and various local service agencies provided critical outreach to the working poor. Residents of the YMCA will receive medical care and life skills training, including job education, and partial care treatment for the mentally ill. The creation of this social service environment will greatly benefit those persons who might otherwise be forced into homelessness. |
